In 1990 a young Sicilian couple chose the Soviet Union for their honeymoon. They came back with plenty of stories, but without a book: the one he had written along the way, titled "The Ideal Society", left behind in a house in Benderi, beside a statue of Lenin. Thirty years later, their son sets off for the same places with a small crew. He wants to see the Moldova they described: Gagauzia, Soroca, Transnistria. And to try to find that book, a book that stayed in a state no one recognises. What he finds is a country made of pieces that don't fit together, and a question he ends up putting to everyone he meets, from one bank of the Nistru to the other.
